General
Lake Como is traditionally known as a place where life is good. Since long ago, the well-to-do come here to find their peace and that still happens. At home and abroad the lake is seen as an area with status, reflecting among other things in the houses and their owners. Many famous politicians, movie stars and musicians of both Italian and foreign origin or have had here a (holiday) stay. Still can be found everywhere along the lake large villas reflect this stateliness.
The Lake
The lake is in the form of an inverted 'Y'. The three largest cities Colico (north), Como (southwest) and Lecco (southeast). Another famous place is Bellagio, located at the junction of the two arms. The places Menaggio and Varenna are respectively the western and eastern shores, both at the level of Bellagio.
Pianello del Lario
Pianello del Lario, the village (Commune) here La Poncia belongs to, is about fifteen minutes driving north of Menaggio and is made up of a number frazzione (communities). La Poncia belongs to the community Crotti, which is on the south side of the village, almost on the border of Pianello and the adjacent Cremia.
When in the village, one should also have a walk up the mountain, to discover the other frazzione. You can then also enjoy a panoramic view of the lake and its beautiful surroundings. Or have a walk all the way from Cremia to Musso, via the beach.
